Dealing with Crack Addicts

Crack also known as crack cocaine is a very strong drug that creates a rapid high. The drug has become very common in Kenya due to the infiltration of drug cartels.

What Happens When People Use Crack

Crack cocaine is a stimulant which implies that it speeds up the mental and physical processes of consumers. Crack addicts work on the overdrive. They are energetic, happy, focused, and attentive and look elated all the time. Crack cocaine moves very fast into the bloodstream. Its effects are immediate due to its high absorption rate. The high rate of absorption increases dependence leading to fast addiction.

Effects of Crack Cocaine

Crack cocaine can be used during recreation since it increases the energy levels of a person.  The impacts of the drug include a high heartbeat, dilated pupils, and long hours of wakefulness. Frequent nosebleeds, lack of appetite and subsequent weight loss, hypertension, and muscle twitching.

Behavior Issues

Crack addicts have behavior signs that are outstanding. For instance, they will do anything to maintain their energetic bodies. They also tend to be aggressive and depict extreme mood swings. Others become psychotic with paranoia and hallucinations. They also try to do anything to finance their dose. Some go to levels of stealing and selling any item that they see to finance their lifestyles.

How to live with a crack addict

  • Be firm and supportive.
  • Do not yield to their manipulation-understand their withdrawal symptoms.
  • Contact a professional therapist to help in dealing with the psychotic symptoms.
  • Take care of yourself-set boundaries and work on offering a support system.

Self-care is critical when taking care of drug addicts. Never forget about your needs. Be firm and ensure that you do not give in to manipulation. A rehabilitation center is one of the places that can help in eliminating addiction.
